The Righteous Man by C.J. Dennis

| No TrackBacks
Is Sunday, and the man of prayer,
Of aspect mild and chastened look,
Kneels in the church, and worships there,
And bows his head upon a book,
Reading the lesson for the day.
He bleats devoutly,
                     Let us pray.

Is Monday, and the man of trade,
Of aspect keen and crafty look,
Sits in his den where schemes are laid,
And bends his gaze upon a book,
Planning the business of the day.
He softly mutters,
                     Let us prey.
