Morris of Rutherglen

Established: 1859

Location: 16km east of Rutherglen along the Murray Valley Highway.

Winemaker: David Morris.

Important Varietals: Sparkling Shiraz/Durif, Cabernet Sauvignon, Durif, Muscat and Tokay.

Personal Comments:

I mainly go to this winery for the fortifieds and the Sparkling red, although on my last visit I did find a White Port that I thought was interesting. Mick Morris (now retired) produced some of the best Muscats and Tokays in the Rutherglen area and his son is continuing the tradition of 140-odd years. A mate of mine goes to the winery to grovel and beg for a bottle of the Show Reserve Muscat which is a sight to behold. At about eighty dollars a bottle he needs to do a fair bit of grovelling. Hasn't let me try it though.
