Booths of Taminick

Established: 1987

Location: Booths Road, Taminick, via Glenrowan.

Winemaker: Cliff Booth.

Important Varietals: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Personal Comments:

These are wines in the traditional North-East Victorian style; big, hefty wines that cry out for a few years in the bottle and then a piece of the best red meat you can find. They are high in alcohol, high in tannin, high in flavour and very low in price - the 1993 Shiraz cost me only $8.00 per bottle in April 1997.

Cliff Booth has seen some 65 vintages at the winery and appears to be laconically hanging on out of love for the life and a desire to ensure John Brown (from Milawa's Brown Brothers) remains at a respectful distance; Brown currently "languishes" at 62 vintages.

There isn't much point buying this stuff for the short-term. Buy it, put it down, and forget it for ten years or so. At the price it's not all that hard to do.
