Colleen McCullough

In the lead-up to the US publication of her latest novel On, Off, Colleeen McCullough talks to the California Literary Review.

The book, a crime novel set in Connecticut in the 1960s is something of a departure for the author, making a change from the Australian bush and ancient Rome. It transpires that her deteriorating eyesight may have heavily influenced her to cross genres. "I don't have to do a lot of research for them, the prose is crisp and bald, and I find it easy to keep plot twists in my head...So I feel it is the genre that would give me the most amusement and pleasure as a writer, combined with ease for people who had to write from my dictation."
