John Scott was born in Littlehampton, England, in 1948 and migrated to Australia in 1959. He grew up in Melbourne and attended Melbourne University. Scott has worked as a freelance writer for television and radio, including the "Auntie Jack Show" and "The Gary MacDonald Show".
His novels Before I Wake and The Architect were both shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award.
