Dustjacket synopsis:
"Out of the Time Stream come Gordon Anderson and his grandson, Tony Gilford, in their trans-temporal precessor, the Chronos. Their search of other worlds brings them into contact with Miranda, whose special powers take them on journeys that are strange and often frightening. Confrontation with Omega, the almost human city, helps Tony to come to terms with his own past, and they are led to explore the most important and difficult question of all...what is Time? To answer this, the three travelers must draw together to face the final, most perilous part of their quest."

First Paragraph:

Constable Griffin was driving home from night patrol duty when he noticed a strange vehicle parked in the city square.

It was 6.15am on a quiet Sunday morning. Though is was early summer, the overnight termperature had fallen to a chill 7ºC. Light rain was falling. The streets were deserted, and a cold wind busily scattered Saturday night refuse along the footpaths.

He eased back on the accelerator and steered his car over to the kerb. He pressed a button on the dashboard, and the driving-side window slid down. He stared out.
