A SUCCESSFUL SUIT
Upon his knees, with words that thrill
And eyes lit up with soulful yearning,
He voiced the tender wish that filled
His heart, and set his bosom burning,
Beseeching her who sat so mute
To pity and accept his suit.

She lectures now on dress-reform And cursed alcoholic liquors, And wears his garments neat and warm, His beauforts, vests, and British "knickers." He pressed his suit, Did she accept it? You bet; and ever since she's kept it.
